statement

I would like to study at MSA because of the innovative and rich architectural history of Manchester. The city tells its own story of transformation through its building’s layouts and spaces. This is an aspect  I am widely passionate about, architecture speaking for itself. I believe working in an environment that reflects this value will allow me to keep a passionate and authentic love for architecture as well as  inspiring my future designs. Recently I visited the St Pancreas Renaissance hotel, it is a building that I have always been intrigued by as its large height makes it a center of attention. The scale of the building as well as its gothic design emulated emotion of dominance and prestige (perhaps this was due to my association of its design to churches and medieval palaces) this emotion was imitated by those walking in and out of it (as they almost walked with their heads held high), no fault of their own rather the atmosphere created by the building encouraged this. This is an observational drawing of a building in my area at different angles, I particularly enjoyed drawing the graffiti over the brick detailing.

This is an abstract painting study on human anatomy which later on inspired a collection of more simpler studies. I  used pencil in the background to create sketched versions of the muscle movements. This emphasised the bold red colour that was used for the main anatomy

Experimental paintings

These are a collection of experimental abstract paintings I created using watercolours and fine liner. They were created with the intent of complementing a previous abstract study on anatomy, however it evolved into a simpler focus on movements I found interesting. Here I focused more simply on muscle movement and the various linear strokes formed when muscles are stretched.

Small sculpture

This is a mini project inspired by a bamboo grove I photographed in Ghana. I created a rough plan and worked from there continuing to adapt my ideas.

life-size female sculpture (~5'7)

This is a life-size sculpture I made for the theme of Beauty and femininity". The sculpture takes influences from Niki De Saint Phalle and Rodin. I created a female version of Rodin's bronze soldier with accenting breast designs most commonly found on De Saint Phalle's Nanas, as well as the decorative snake that appears in some of her work.
